As a Catholic missionary, she left Ireland in 1935 never to return.
When she arrived in Japan, she found herself overwhelmed in a land bearing no resemblance to home at a time when the Far East nation was heading into the Pacific War.
1935年、一人のカトリック宣教女が、 アイルランドを離れ、日本に渡った。二度と戻らない覚悟でー。
住み慣れた故郷と何もかもが違う、異国の地。彼女を待ち受けていたのは、太平洋戦争に向かって突き進む、極東の島国だった。
“Thanks to your Noble Shadow” is a documentary film about Sr. Paschal O’ Sullivan, one of Ireland’s last missionary nuns. It tells her personal story from her youth in Ireland through the 75 years she spent in Japan up until her return home at the age of 98.
「お陰様で」は、アイルランド最後の宣教女の1人、シスター・パスカル・オサリヴァンを追ったドキュメンタリー映画です。
アイルランドで過ごした青春時代から始まって、98歳で故郷に戻るまで75年を過ごした日本での活動など、激動の時代を生きた彼女の人生を振り返ります。
The film is as compelling as it is unique, based on more than 60 hours of interviews. It provides a rare insight into a life dedicated to the missionary cause at a time when this worldwide movement is drawing to a close.
60時間以上もの膨大なインタビューに基づき構成した、この映画は、魅力あるヒューマンドキュメンタリーであるとともに、今は世界的に終焉をを迎えつつある、「教育を通した布教活動」に身を捧げた、宣教師の生き様を伝える、貴重な記録でもあります。
